Did you know that there are various types of bras? In fact, there are 31 common bra styles, each with their own design and function for almost every clothing style, breast size, body shape, and even physical activity. Whew! Who would have thought that bra styles could be as diverse as a supermarket?
We’ve put together a list of the 7 most popular bra styles:
- Push Up Bra – these padded bras are fashioned to boost cleavage. The padding is typically made of foam but some bra styles contain gel-filled pads or water-sacks inserts. The padded quality of push up bras is quite different from a regular padded bra because the padding is centered outside the breasts to push the breasts inwards and upwards for the best lift. The goal of the push-up bra is to give a fuller look to the breasts regardless of the size.
- Demi Bra – the bra cup of these half cup bras is straight across and the bra straps are wide set. This bra style covers the lower part of the bosom to just above the nipples. Ideal for showing the decollete as it accentuates and frames the cleavage.
- Shelf Bra – this open bra covers the base of the breasts, baring the upper part and the nipples. Generally worn for romantic interludes, shelf bras provide minimal breast support and almost no coverage. This is a favorite exotic lingerie style because of its sexy design.
- T Shirt Bra – this brassiere has seamless bra cups making it a perfect choice for snug T-shirts and clingy blouses as it gives you a smooth and invisible look. Usually T-shirt bras have light padding in the molded bra cups for a smoother fit.
- Training Bra – this first bra is constructed for young girls in their pre-teen or teen years who are in their early breast stage development. Most training bras are wirefree and are smaller than regular sized bras.
- Strapless Bra – this bra style is designed without bra straps and has a wide band for support together with small silicone strips along the inside to ensure a snug fit. Strapless bras are designed especially for halter, strapless and party dresses and summer fashions.
- Sports Bra – these brassieres are made to support the breasts while you exercise with minimal bounce. Sports bras generally have wider straps and fuller cups for better support and are available in a multitude of styles for low impact exercises to high impact exercises, including the compression bra and encapsulation bra. For the best fit look for fabrics with a touch of lycra or spandex.
You can find the more popular types of bras like push up bras, T shirt bras, demi bras, maternity bras, long line bras and sports bras at most specialty lingerie stores, and of course at online lingerie stores.
