Haircutting shears or barber scissors are scissors that are custom-designed for cutting or trimming hair. The best way to ensure a clean hair cut is to used razor sharp hair shears. Clean cuts keep the hair-ends clean and tidy, and they reduce split ends. Thus, it is always necessary to keep the haircutting shears sharp and knife-like. All hair stylists or users are well-aware of the significance of sharpening their haircutting shears, but not all of them know when and how to sharpen the hair shears.

Go through the following steps to have a fair idea of how to sharpen hair shears:

1. The first step in sharpening the hair shears is to take time to carefully example the blades of the professional hair scissors. The blades of the hair scissors need to be tested to determine if there are any nicks. It is very important to look at the haircutting shears when deciding how to sharpen them. Professionals often hold the blade of the haircutting shears to the finger to help check for any imperfections. After that, they check the haircutting shears to make sure that they close correctly. In addition, they examine the hair shears to check for strength and accuracy. Often times, they will check the sharpness of the haircutting shears against tissue paper or a single human hair to look for imperfections.

2. After testing haircutting shears, they correct any problems they discover. After that, it is time to sharpen the professional hair scissors. The mechanic re-sets the outer convex curve of the hair scissors. This is done using a flat disc honing machine. Throughout this process, each and every imperfection one the haircutting shears including burrs, nicks, incorrect curvature, in the ride line edge is adjusted.

3. After the sharpening is complete, they polish the hair shears. Most importantly, all damage to the professional hair scissors is repaired.

4. The hair shears’ ride line has to be entirely perfect or else all work performed to the blade will have been useless. It is the flimsy flat surface inside the border of blade that runs at the time of hair-cutting. To give a nice finish to the line, oil and water stones or various types of grits are used. After that, the ride line is further tested by touch and visual magnification. This is done primarily to ensure accuracy when reassembling the hair shears. If still, there is any defect, the blade is brought back to the oil and water stones to do more honing.

5. Before re-assembling the haircutting shears, the mechanic cleans all the blades and other pieces. The tension is fixed and the tips are examined for appropriate closure. Then, the scissors is examined for final quality. Finally, the hair shears are tested on human hair to ensure quality. If any imperfection or defect is detected, it is repaired again and finally the professional hair scissors is polished for delivery.
