Part II: Types of Cotton Fibers

Oxford is a type of a woven fabric that is usually being employed to make oxford shirts. The weft is heavier with a soft spun fill yarn making it shiny and soft finish that makes it a choice fabric for a dress shirts.

Percale is a light weight, fine, closely tough fabric that is available in printed dark or solid colors. This is often used for bed linens.

Pima Cotton is an awesome quality cotton fabric made from an Egyptian cotton. Pima cotton in clothing is often used in mens dress shirts and women clothing.

Polished Cotton is a plain weave cotton cloth with a sheen ranging from dull to bright. The color of the fabric can be a solid color that is usually piece dyed or printed.

Poplin is normally used in clothing and upholstery which resembles a plain fabric with catty-cornered ribbed fabric. This is popularly used in shirts and pants with a combination of softer and heavier grades of cotton. Both women’s and mens shirts now considered the use of a poplin fabric because of its soft and shiny appearance.

Seersucker is the lightweight puckered fabric in end long stripes. This is used to make clothing for spring and summer wear. This is also used as fabric for custom dress shirts during hot season.

Velveteen is an all cotton pile fabric with short pile resembling or imitating velvet. The warm and heavy fabric was very popular in the winter, especially in Northern Europe.

Swiss cotton comes in either plain or decorated fine cotton with a soft and breathable textile. This is most widely used natural-fiber cloth in clothing today.

Whipcord is a strong whipped fabric with a sloping round cords or ribs that can also be produced in wool.

Tweed is a blue rough textured wool, originally homespun and slightly felted. This fabric is sturdy with a mottled color.
