When you step into a hat shop, you probably won’t be familiar with most of the hat styles. Evolution is a constant in terms of fashion and design, for example red hats are popular today and certain styles appear to last forever. Following is a synopsis of modern and classic hat fashions.
Western style hats are a traditional favorite, not only for real cowboys on ranches. Fans of the country and western styles and music like to wear cowboy hats. Today this style is not the sole province of males; plenty of females can be seen wearing vibrant, imagine a red hat country style.
Top hats are also popular, and they are often worn for proms, weddings and other formal events. You are even starting to see females sporting top hats; however they typically feature floral decoration, lace or other decor.
In the 1800s, the sailor hat or boater premiered. It has a flat crown, single ribbon band, consists of straw, is stiff and hard and is called the straight brim hat. Nowadays this style has lost some of its popularity, however it was a favorite of mostly females and kids.
Derby hats, or bowlers as they are often referred to, feature upturned sides, round brims and shallow crowns, these are beautiful in a red hat. Bowler type hats are generally fabricated with stiff felt, hearkening back to the days it protected the head’s of equestrians. Women and children commonly wear this hat today.
Women’s fashion has incorporated what was formerly the men’s fedora into its mainstream. Women wear fedoras as-is or with lots of decorations, such as bows, ribbons, lace, etc. Men can still wear fedoras, but they usually refrain from decorating them.
An old time favorite is the baseball hat. These are nearly a universal staple due to their versatility and wide array of options as far as color, design and so on.
No mater your style there is hat for you. When you’re dressing formally, or going for a casual look, or even covering up a “bad hair day” – anytime is the right time for a hat.
